DC Comics hated Captain Marvel so much that they owned his license and didn’t not print any comics which gave Marvel the opportunity to use the name for its own character. To be honest, Superman was a slight ripoff of the pulp hero Doc Savage. The original incarnation of Superman could not fly “leap tall buildings with a single bound”. Captain Marvel was a child who by calling the wizard’s name was changed into an adult and got his powers from six Greek gods representing the word SHAZAM. Superman was an alien while Captain Marvel got his powers through the wizard Shazam. The only similarity those characters ever shared was super strength. Finally, in terms of the lawsuit, DC basically sued Fawcett on a poorly judged case. Also, Superman has ripped off ideas from Captain Marvel flight, an evil genius scientist, and a family of heroes with his powers although, Superboy was originally the young version of Superman.

The Shazam series of the 70s was DC’s attempt to bring Captain Marvel into the DC universe but the writing was lacking an understanding of their world. These books have more of the tone of the original Captain Marvel stories. The two best series for Captain Marvel since the DC has had ownership are the Power of Shazam and Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam. Now he’s a horrible derivative of himself that shares his powers with his foster siblings. They bought the characters and never had a truly successful long running series. Apparently no crisis has effects on Earth S whatsoever due to the Captain's insane power levels. The original Captain Marvel resides on Earth S in the farthest end of the multiverse kept away from the rest and Earth 5 CM is a reflection of the original Captain. Can DC please stop messing around with the powers of Shazam? The grudge is pretty evident in the way he is sidelined. Everyone says that Shazam is a 100 percent copy of Superman but that's not the case. Shazam is NOT a blatant rip off of Superman and the publication history shows that.
The character is amazing and so is the very notion behind Billy.
